Any leftovers???
By the time all but the cleanup crew & a few others had left, there was a little– 1/2 a turkey breast, 1/3 brisket. But there were ziplock bags available and the cleanup crew picked through what was left. Nothing went to waste! And you’ll love this, someone took the turkey carcasses home to freeze & then make soup out of.
Well darn! All that cooking and now you’ll still have to make dinner!
a PS…now that I have officially handed over the Thanksgiving dinner routine to my daughter in law, she makes a turkey, but then gives away the leftovers to the guests. The carcass is mine – she says she makes soups, but has no interest in using the turkey bones. ???? I don’t argue – I just take the thing home, strip off the remaining scraps of meat – which is usually enough for at least one more dinner, then pop the bones into the pot.
My task is to arrive in time to make gravy. She doesn’t make gravy. We got caught in traffic one time, and she made it herself – following what I had done before. When we arrived, she said she just didn’t understand it – it wouldn’t get thick. I asked her how long she had let it boil…she said she hadn’t boiled it at all. !! I explained to her that she had to bring it to a boil and boil it for about 3 minutes. We did so and it was fine. Her parents were Colombian – she’s a good cook – but not exactly a terrific cook of American foods! It’s ok though – my son doesn’t complain!
