I am fan of Waffle Houses. Not a fb fan mind you.. I don’t do fb… But a fan. For the most part Waffle Houses are highly reliable. There is one menu and with very minor variation, e.g., just how much cheese is on an order of hash browns scattered smothered covered and chunked, you know exactly what you are going to be served when you place your memorized order.
As a public service I must comment that the Waffle House at the Batesville, Mississippi exit on I55 is a rare exception to the reliable road food worthiness of Waffle Houses. It is Awful . Disgusting. Do not go there and whatever you do, do not eat there.
The Waffle House at the Winona exit, just a few miles down the road, has always been very reliable with respect to road food worthiness. Until this morning.
I placed my standard order– waffle, hashbrowns scattered smothered covered and chunked. The nice young man informed me they were out of onions. So scattered covered and chunked. The nice young man then turned to the cook and hollered (there’s a lot of hollering on the Waffle House line) “Got any cheese?”
He then returned to me and said, “You’re down to chunked.” And so I was.
Needless to say, Mr. Big Food did not have a cheese omelette at the Winona Waffle House this morning.
How does a historically reliable road food worthy Waffle House have no onions and no cheese at 6:15am on a slow weekday morning? I asked that question of the nice young man and was told that the manager hadn’t been in. As explanations go, that was weak.
I’m going to investigate.
[Pease note that I already had a ‘Waffle House’ tag. Thank you.]
