Today is Evacuation Day!! (That’s really what it’s called in Anniversaries and Holidays.)
It is the day on which, in 1776, British Troops felt so threatened by Patriots’ cannon fire that the troops packed their bags and left Boston.
Here’s a tidbit. Between “one-third to one-half of American troops in the Revolutionary War were of Irish decent.” Nine of the 56 signers of the Declaration were Irish. And 19 of our Presidents had Irish ancestors.
If the United States is the world’s melting pot, the broth has a wee bit o’ the taste of Irish stew.
