Crappy Old Book of the Month was Science in Your Own Back Yard (Cooper, 1958).
There was a lot I didn’t get to in this book. I had hoped to comment briefly on Chapter 10: Plants from Spores because one of the funniest things ever is the settled science of
crappy old cook books, specifically the yeast bread section. Yeast is a tiny non-green plant, don’t you know.
There’s a chapter on weather– that might have been fun.
The ants made me think of E.O. Wilson. (I am not a fan.)
The chapter on Birds looks especially interesting… . “Man has always been impressed by the wonders of bird life.”
That’s a strong statement.
But alas, it is May 31. Time to move on… .
