Things have been busy lately for all of us here at the Farm. But Mr. Big Food took some time out this afternoon to send me an email. A bit after noon today he said he would like to be there when the first gay couple walked into the office of our county clerk and applied for a marriage license.

This became our running conversation– on email and then in real life when I picked Mr. Big Food up in Starkvegas this afternoon. What will those ladies do?

This is funny to us because when we first moved here and bought the Farm, we had to go to the clerk’s office to file our homestead exemption. She was filling out the paperwork and it occurred to me to mention to her that Mr. Big Food and I did not have the same last name.

Mind you, all of this was taking place in the old now burnt out Courthouse. (They started stumping the new site.)

She was perplexed, as both of our names are properly on the deed, but she wasn’t sure the ladies in Jackson would be able to process the exemption because that’s not how the form was laid out. We sort of had to convince her we were married. We didn’t– nor do we now although I am much more inclined to respond to “Mrs. Big Food” than I used to be– have the same last name.

I predict that there will be a number of ladies who work in local offices and are close to retirement time who will soon be thanked for their years of service to their communities as they take early retirement.

Meanwhile… at about 5:30pm central time yesterday…

You’re right! I did rain like crazy about 90 minutes later! Isn’t that just awesome?!

I hear it’s dry in parts of the country.
