For whatever reason Mr. Big Food and I awoke shortly after the power went out this morning. Fortunately– and as you may recall– we have experience dealing with power outages and know that one does not need to sacrifice creature comforts even if one does not have electricity handy.

And so, after we’d called the emergency number to report the outage and were told that “they” had TOP MEN working on it, we decided to have a cup of coffee. Now. I could have just heated water in the kettle (after I’d lit the burner with a lighter, of course) and done pour over, but it’s sort of hard to do pour over when you are operating only by candle and flash light light. And we like percolator coffee the best of any. So I retrieved by Pyrex Percolator and we watched the coffee perc, then poured it in a thermos and sat around talking about Mississippi politics until the power came back on a bit before dawn.

By the way. The North District Public Service Commissioner is up for re-election. He’s the guy who’s like in charge of over-seeing public services and utilities, like, you know, electric power companies.

Also by the way, it did rain a little for a couple of days and quite unexpectedly quite a bit last night.
