Mr. Big Food, Daughter C, and I were in New York City for the blizzard of 2000.
We’d been at a conference held between Christmas and New Years. It began snowing over night and we woke to learn that the airports had shut down. Stranded in NYC. I’ll never forget turning on the local news and listening to Mayor Giuliani simply asking New Yorkers to enjoy the city’s Winter Wonderland.
We bundled up. Mr. Big Food walked a block or so to the conference. Daughter C and I took the subway to Greenwich Village. Though many were closed, some stores were open and we wandered around looking at shoes we couldn’t afford. It really was quite beautiful– quiet and serene.
The next year Mr. Big Food and I were browsing Columbus Circle Gallery and I saw this photograph of the blizzard. We’d stood in that same spot.
Now it hangs in the hallway– a lovely reminder of a quiet and serene New York City.
