I like this little left-hand corner of my desk to be free from organization– to be free– to hold a pile of books
I think I might want to come back to to which I think I might want to refer again someday.
There it is.
Stepping Stones to Literature (1898)
George Washington Rules!
When you deliver a matter, do it without passion, and with discretion, however mean the person may be you do it to.
I have no idea what this means but I think it is awesome!
To tell the truth, I think I understand part of it; “however mean” probably means something like, however average or ordinary. I could certainly (+/-) be wrong about this.
But I have no real understanding of what delivering a matter is.
And so I thought to my self, not since Kant has anyone ever held the whole of Western Culture and Knowledge in his head until the Now. So I searched the World Wide Web for “when you deliver a matter.”
And the only thing I could think of to say is that if you are an undergraduate student at New York University and “you are having trouble understanding matter,” we are all quite possibly FUBARd and I am really really glad I live on a Farm in Mississippi.
Maybe if I’d googled instead of binged, things would have been different.
