How did this happen? How could I possibly have written over one thousand posts with no category?
Here’s how. First, I wrote a post and forgot to categorize it. Then I did the same thing with another. After seven years of doing this, they start to add up!
I don’t so much mind that I have uncategorized posts. I mind that in the categories list over there –> the first category is “Uncategorized.” Just doesn’t look good. So I’m attempting to fix the problem.
I’ve had a number of thoughts on this and have tested out a few. None was efficient. I got rid of three or four pages worth (there were 56 pages listing Uncategorized posts) quite easily. Turns out that if you post and then say, “Oh crap. I forgot to list a category,” and go back and fix it, it still is in the uncategorized category. Those were easy to quick edit.
That still leaves 50 some odd pages, though. So here is the brilliant plan I stumbled upon. Create new category: “WTH? No category?” The nice thing about this is that in the ordering of categories, W falls way down there over there –> . And since that’s the thing that bothered me, and since I can bulk edit to add a category to posts, it works sort of kind of. The problem, as I’m sure you’ve already perceived, is that the posts are still categorized as Uncategorized. But I can quick edit that out. It may take some time but I can do it.
Let us now turn to the real head scratcher. How can there exist the category “Uncategorized?” This is a metaphysical question.
Stop. Quit laughing! I’m not kidding. Let’s think about this.
Simply in virtue of putting these posts into the category Uncategorized they are no longer uncategorized now, are they? Clearly, they are categorized as Uncategorized. A real philosophical dilemma, wouldn’t you say? Not to worry. Metaphysicians have tricks up their sleeves. All you have to do is rename the category. Happens all of the time. Just think Earth, Water, Air & Fire and ask yourself just where those elements are in the periodic table.
