It is not intended that this book be a substitute for nor a condensation of a textbook. … [T]his book’s purpose is to teach the high school student in Physics how to solve problems: the kind that are encountered in real life as well as on examinations.

Yes. I am still cleaning off my desk. That educational stats book really sidetracked me yesterday. Heh. Who am I kidding? It sidetracked me this morning, too!

Couple of quick thoughts re: the Foreword to Graphics Problems.

Active or passive? Which do you prefer? What’s wrong with, “I intend this book… “?

I would have inserted a couple of commas: “substitute for, … condensation of,” but that’s just me. You?

Re: the Problems.

I’m just going to go with the idea that problems 391-394 are of the sort a high school Physics student would encounter on an examination as opposed to real life. I mean really, how many flying airplanes were exploding in the ’50s? Good grief.

Re: #394.

Recite after me, people:

EVERY gun is always loaded.
ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction
ALWAYS keep you finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
KNOW your target and what’s beyond.

I don’t know about you, but if I “heard the bullet land in a tree beside” me I couldn’t care less how “many feet distant” the gun was. I’d be ready to slap the person who pulled the trigger upside the head. Claiming “it is not intended” be damned.
