See on Gab
√* Collect rain water | 250 gal industrial strength barrel sitting right over there collecting free water that falls from the sky.
√ Go fishing | 5 acre lake just a short walk from my desk. Dogs love it.
√ Own a property | 60 acres. Granted we pay property taxes (though not as much as the creator of this meme does, I’m sure), but I don’t recall having to get permission to buy the Farm from any government entity, just our local Farmers’ Savings and Loan.
X Start a business | Don’t really have any desire to do this and if I did, I’d just do it.
√ Renovate your home | May I remind you of the goings on here during the lost Summer? Those were some renovations! Just hired unlicensed guys who did them.
√ Build a home | Thinking about building a small A-frame up near the summit someday. Won’t have to ask a soul.
√ Use a transportation vehicle |I see car tags as property taxes, not permissions. But if you are talking about a driver’s license… . I get where you’re going, but if you can’t pass a driver’s test… you just may be a threat to my safety.
X Get married | Absolutely correct on this. What a racket.
√ Hunt | In Mississippi you do not need a hunting license to hunt on your own land. But you do need a license to fish in lakes (which you do not own), rivers and at the Gulf. I have mixed feelings about this. I’m inclined to not be too offended. Maintaining public lands and water for hunting is one of the very few things state governments do pretty well.
X Own a weapon | Yes. You must pass a background check to buy a weapon from a retailer (or at a gun show). Owning & buying– while obviously related– are not the same thing.
X Cut hair | What to say?
√ Sell a product | People sell stuff all over the place! Have you never been to a farmer’s market or a Christmas market? Or for that matter, a junk store?
√ Protest | Once again, I remind you that Mississippi State University and The university of Mississippi (Ole Miss) are both F.I.R.E. green light schools. Protest away!
√√√√√ Grow food on your property | Seriously, I do not know where you live– and I have heard of such atrocious places– but here in Mississippi you don’t have to ask permission to grow food on your own land. You may want to ask your county agent for help, but by God nobody’s going to keep Mississippians from having vegetable gardens.
√ Set up a lemonade stand | I haven’t seen an honest to goodness lemonade stand in years. But I see kids selling all sorts of stuff door-to-door and washing cars on corners. Quite certain they didn’t ask anyone but Mom & Dad.
√ Sell food | Ridiculous. Girl. Scouts. Where do you live?
Also– how’s about some referent agreement? Government-singular. Their-plural.
Look. I’m a card carrying Libertarian. I don’t like taxes. I don’t like regulations, generally and I certainly don’t like the idea of marriage, hair cutting and braiding “licenses.” But if one is going to go to the trouble of putting together a meme, isn’t it incumbent upon one to get it right? Permissions– in the form of licenses– and taxes are not the same thing. Even the last little blurb conflates the two.
* I am well aware that √ is a square root sign. But I’ll be damned if I could find a regulation check make in Word Press’ symbols assortment.
