This morning, over coffee, Mr. Big Food and I planned our day.
Dogs– all of them– behind the range for their run.
“Would you make French toast?” Mr. Big asked. Delighted. Dash of nutmeg and it was delicious.
SEC Nation and ESPN are both in Atlanta today so tele-vision on in the kitchen as we clean out the fridge– it is Sausage Making Day– load the dishwasher, &c. Still to be determined is whether we’ll watch Alabama and Georgia before or while we’re making sausage. Kickoff is at 3pm CT.
This is about as old fashioned a pot roast as they come, and I cannot wait to smash those fine new potatoes Mr. Big Food found with the tines of my fork and sop up the tomato gravy. Fresh pearl onion, too! The timing will be perfect. It will be ready just as Clemson & Pittsburgh, and Northwestern & Ohio State kickoff.
What about the sausage?
Homemade (HM) Onion Thyme 5 lbs.
HM w/ Sage 5 lbs. Mr. Big Food asked about our fresh sage situation over coffee. I have it covered.
Apple, Sage, and Fennel 5 lbs. See above regarding sage.
Curry Wurst 2-3 lbs. This is where things get dicey. Yesterday, as Mr. Big Food was gathering those fine new potatoes, pearl onions, and apples, I was tasked with getting turmeric. Don’t tell him yet, but I forgot. So this morning I raided Daughter C’s spice rack and found two different curries. I hope one will substitute because– and we know this for a fact– there is no turmeric in town. I’d have to go to Starkvegas and that is not part of our plan.
HM Penn(sylvania) Dutch 2-3 lbs.
By the time Alabama has beaten Georgia, we will have ~20 pounds of homemade sausage curing in the fridge in the Bunkhouse. That’s the plan.
I sincerely hope your day goes according to your plan.
