Welcome to Volume 92, Issue 05 of local news– where I endeavor to entertain you with all the news that’s fit to print here in the newspaper of record in my little county in rural Mississippi.
Before we begin, an update on the ongoing and BIG news. The sheriff– having been indicted on 12 felony counts ranging from embezzlement to trafficking firearms to having sex with an inmate– is out on bond, under house arrest, and still getting paid a salary of $75,000– as is the sheriff pro-temore. The Board of Supervisors has adopted a resolution citing chapter and verse from the Mississippi Constitution explaining why they cannot withhold the the sheriff’s salary and accompanying benefits. They do this “under the strongest protest.”
And now… the rest of the news.
Logan’s run ends: The inmate who escaped from the county jail (run by the sheriff’s dep’t) by climbing a fence and then jumping onto the roof and running away has been apprehended. He was found hiding under a bed in his girlfriend’s house. His name is Anthony Logan. The editor of the paper has a sense of humor.

Editorial comment: If you live within driving distance of a little county church, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of the annual church supper. The guys of W____ Baptist really do know how to grill up some delicious chicken, deer meat and quail, and the ladies contribute only their best dishes. Well worth the six or seven dollars per plate.
