Trees Down, Bones, & Birds

Mr. Big Food cut the Southwest and Hidden Pastures yesterday as best he could given how wet it still is in places. Told me there were a couple of trees down by Copperhead Crossing. So this morning Rocky, Missy, and I went to take a look.

At some point, I saw Missy running with a bone.

Probably a young deer but I didn’t look too carefully.

And then it was almost back home.

Yeah. That is a truck you hear in one of the videos– probably a log truck on the highway a few miles from here. Sound travels quite far in the mornings.

Birds are awesome, aren’t they?

  1. It appears that you have lots of them…one or two or three down shouldn’t be too big a deal! Besides…you don’t need firewood these days …but the time will come!!

    1. They fell over a path. John likes his paths uncluttered. And it actually is in a place on the path that’s sort of bottle-necked. going from one pasture to another. But Pat came out yesterday and he’ll get on it. If it’s good firewood, I’ll ask him to pitch some in his truck.

  2. I think we _all_ prefer out paths uncluttered! And of course it fell across the path…isn’t that how life _always_ goes?? Besides…if they _hadn’t_ fallen across the path, but instead, had fallen somewhere amongst the other trees…would anyone have noticed? And even more besides…it would have been much more difficult to remove the downed trees! much easier to remove them when there’s already a path!

    And here’s a by the way….
    The link is to a CL ad from the SA area. It’s for a chicken house, but a bit of an unusual design. One that might be worth considering, if you’re considering chickens. I’d copy and paste the photo of the chicken house, but I haven’t had much luck with pasting photos!

    Actually, the ad is really interesting. The “family farm” is in Fredricksburg, and apparently the ad originates in Converse. It’s apparent that the farm is abandoned. What happened? They must still own the farm, or the coops would be gone. Looks like they had _lots_ of chickens. Then my mind goes to that article you posted a couple of days ago about chicken ranches. Related? maybe. Then I look at the coops…they claim they’re moveable. But the “farm” photo puts them under very large units…formerly plastic covered?? Way more questions than answers!
    Did I mention I like Craigslist????

    1. Yes you did! CL is for you like FB is for some, I think!! 🙂 Those coops look different from the ones I’ve seen.
