And the most amazing thing? This started PRE-Covid! They are everywhere. Four of us were standing around outside and one robot managed to negotiate the space between us. So Ole Miss.

Two flagmen have apparently lost their jobs. We didn’t have to wait too long. My God the roads in this county are absolutely horrible. I swear if you’re on a little concrete bridge you can look through the holes and see water.

Our host, Steve, walked us around campus showing the Italian Post-Doc the various points of interest. (And a couple of things that no longer exist.) Sorority Row was one such. We had told her about the various sorority shenanigans– wearing gowns to tailgates and so forth– and Steve confirmed that was it indeed was an Ole Miss Thing. See what I mean? If I had told you young sorority women wear gowns– I’m talking for real gowns here– to football games, you’d have thought that was the most Ole Miss Thing ever.

Lunch at Big bad Breakfast was fabulous. We paid the $1.25 to park on The Square, spent some time at Square Books, and headed out.

We decided to take the back way for the last leg. A few deer– had to wait for the fawn to cross in front of us. A boat load of kittens in the road– that was some serious navigation. Stopped to look at something, looked up and saw I was blocking a giant tractor. Typical stuff. One thing really stood out, though. A real rural Mississippi scene.

If you look, you can see sweet potatoes on the ground– lots more than what I’ve noted. It was pretty cool. They’d harvested and left the ones that aren’t fit for market on the ground. I picked up a good one! Lots of folks will scavenge the fields looking for decent ones. Free food!
