COFFEE EMPRESS JOSEPHINE

“Marie Josephine De Lapagerie was born in 1763 on the Island of Martinique. She married Viscount de Beauharnais. He was guillotined and she was also nearly guillotined herself. In 1796 she married Napoleon Bonaparte. She became Empress of France in 1804. Napoleon divorced her in 1809.
The Empress Josephine was known in her time as one of the most beautiful women in the world. Coming from the Island of Martinique, she knew both French and island cooking very well. When she came to France she quickly learned European cooking. Her Coffee Empress Josephine became popular all over Europe and still is. Here is the original recipe.

“Make your coffee with your usual favorite method. Make cocoa with your usual favorite method. Make a measure of one-half hot coffee and one-half hot cocoa. Top the cup of liquid with sweetened whipped cream, flavored with almond flavoring.
