I miss the FOL monthly books sales. They still have them but I stopped going several years ago. There was a shakeup on the Board of Directors, our friend Danny quit, and they stopped accepting donations older than 15 years. So what was the point of my going? I had an epic rant when all of this took place. I wonder if I can easily find it?
The Friends of Starkville (known by followers of ESPN as “Starkvegas”) Library hold monthly book sales on the First Monday of the Month. (Be a Friend, won’t you?) You know what that means, do you not?
Miss M & I had a grand old time this afternoon! Afterward, we went for coffee at Nine-twentynine.
As is my habit, I spent about one-half of one United States dollar on each of these 18 crappy old books, although I did shell out $5.00 for the one highlighted by the blue box. Thumbing through it as I was cataloging by the light of the Notre Dame vs. Carolina game, I can honestly say it was worth twice as much, at least to me.
Chats with Music Students (Thomas Tapper,1901)is an odd little book for our time but typical for its. It is a collection of short essays “devoted to hint giving.” In his preface, Tapper tells young musicians,
There is more in art and science than a little money and a little fame. How much more, we must decide for ourselves… .

Clearly I could go on– I haven’t even mentioned the 39 10-cent volumes of Horizon Miss M sold me on. (George Plimpton interviews Hemingway in one issue. I know George Plimpton from The Curious Case of Sidd Finch, but I hear tell he’s written other things.)
