On the off chance you still need another dessert, I combed through the Big Food Manual and have discovered a couple of good ones.

“Holiday Koláčky”

THANKSGIVING TARTS

1 lb (4 sticks) butter, softened, plus an additional 2 oz (4 Tbsp), softened
½ C flour, plus an additional 4 C, maybe more
1 C cream or ½ C cream and ½ C milk, heated to lukewarm
4 egg yolks, plus an additional 1 egg, beaten
1 oz yeast
3 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
Grated rind from ½ lemon
Filling: cottage cheese, poppy seed, mashed prunes, mashed apricots, or other preserves
Topping: a mixture of flour, softened butter, and sugar

Cream together 1 lb butter and ½ C flour, roll out mixture, and refrigerate between two plates.

Beat egg yolks into lukewarm cream or milk, crumble in yeast, and let set. Mix additional 4 C flour with additional 2 oz softened butter, add yeast mixture, then add sugar, salt, and lemon rind, and mix ingredients well. Add more flour if necessary.

Let dough rise covered in a greased bowl (turning dough to coat all surfaces), then roll out dough into 2 equal pieces to “about the size of half of a handkerchief.” Place refrigerated butter mixture between the two dough portion, pinch edges together, and roll out dough “as thin as you can get it.” Fold dough into thirds. Roll again as thin as possible and fold into thirds again. Repeat rolling and folding once more.

After the last rolling, cut dough into squares, place a dollop of Filling in the center of each square, pinch corners of each square together over top of Filling, brush tops with additional beaten egg, and sprinkle with Topping. Place on a greased pan and let rise covered again. Preheat oven to 425˚. Bake until brown.
