When in New Orleans…

It was quite good. I would not have expected otherwise at Galatoire’s. Unfortunately, the shrimp in remoulade was over cooked. A disappointment which disappeared as soon as the dozen oysters Rockefeller were placed on the table.

If I’m remembering correctly, we had oysters three times. All delicious, though for my money nothing beats the oyster sampler platter at the original Wintzell’s Oyster House in downtown Mobile.

The two evening sessions (7-10pm, whose bright idea was this?) having been on Wednesday and Thursday, we had all day Friday with nothing more pressing than drinks and dinner in the Garden District with a dozen others to which to look forward. It was a beautiful day so we headed off toward the Market with a couple of bloody Marys. We found a nice little place to perch ourselves, watch the world go by, and chat.

Hit a couple of used book stores, one of which had old books priced according to what they were actually worth in the real world! I found A Bibliography of the Writings of Charles and Mary Lamb: The First Editions in Book Form with Appendices The Books of John Lamb and Contributions to Periodicals (1979). This is an updated reprint of the original First Editions of Charles and Mary Lamb (1903). Also found Confessions and Self-Portraits: 4600 Years of Autobiography (1957). I have got to admit, I have never before been curious about the history of the autobiography.

I did not see a single person sitting on a bench reading. As a matter of fact, other than the square, there are very few benches to be had, so all of the–pardon my French–F-ed up riff raff were on the sidewalks.
